Information

SE-HPL came to Sweden in mid 1979. The helicopter was owned by Ostermans Aero AB in Järfälla, but operated by the Swedish National Police from their heliport at Barkaby Airport in Stockholm. In April 1983 the Police purchased the helicopter, but the types of operations remained the same.

The helicopter had the callsign POLIS 950, or 8-0950 on the police radio. SE-HPL made history as the first Swedish Police Long Ranger. It was the first IFR-equipped helicopter in Sweden as well.

The helicopter was in faithful service as a Police Helicopter in Swedens capital Stockholm for many years. It was a priceless help in solving many crimes. But on February 21st 2001 the helicopter struck a power line during approach to a field in Ockelbo, a few miles north of Gävle. The pilot survived with minor injuries, but the helicopter was unfortunately destroyed.
