SE-HPY

Information

This "7:th" police-EC135 was manufactured by Eurocopter in Germany in 2002-2003 and was delivered to the Swedish National Police in early-2003, imported by the Swedish Eurocopter agent Savback Helicopters. The machine is based at the Frösön Airport, minutes away from down-town Östersund.

The aircraft was involved in an accident in late-2005. It was conducting a radio mast maintenance commission at the mountain Ansätten in Jämtland County. The crew was forced to leave the aircraft on the mountain top due to freezing clouds. As the crew returned to the machine the next morning they discovered that the strong wind had blown the helicopter off the top, flipped it over and hurled it down along the slope a few meters. It had to be airlifted of the site helped by a Vertol 107 from the Swedish military. The helicopter was brought to Patria Helicopter's maintenance facility at Arlanda Airport and repaired. It began its initial flight tests in November of 2006 and returned to service in early December.

Upgraded to a P2+ (i)
SE-HPY was eventually modified from a P2 to a P2+, which gave the aircraft some extra power and an increased maximum take-off weight.

Retirement
In September 2012 the National Police took the formal decision to renew its fleet and replace its six EC135s, as well as to strengthen the structure with an additional aircraft to cover for the EC135 lost in 2007 (SE-HPS).
On 14 July 2014 Bell Helicopter announced that the Swedish National Police had signed a purchase agreement for seven Bell 429 helicopters.
The first Bell 429 (SE-JPU) was handed over on 1 October 2015, and it made its first official flight in service with the Swedish Police Authority on 27 October. The delivery of the remaining helicopters progressed in a rapid pace.

Together with SE-HPZ, SE-HPY became the third and fourth EC135 to be sold. The two helicopters were exported to Germany from Gothenburg in mid December 2015, and they were officially cancelled from the Swedish register on 23 December. The first EC135 (SE-HPX) had been sold to Germany earlier the same year (Feb 2015) and SE-HPU was exported earlier in December. The helicopters were purchased by Helicopter Travel Munich (HTM), based at Emden Airport, which is focused in supporting the offshore windmill industry.
