Bell 429 displayed in Sweden

On 3 September 2012 Scandinavian MediCopter (the helicopter branch of Scandinavian AirAmbulance) announced that it had been awarded the new HEMS contract in Gotland and that it would utilize a new Bell 429 for the operation. The helicopter will be the first of its kind in Sweden and it will be stationed in Visby for the next 5+2 years, starting from 1 April 2014.
The Bell 429 is a light twin-engine multi-role helicopter developed by Bell Helicopter. It made its first flight back in 2007 and was introduced on the market following the certification in mid-2009. The helicopter features two 730 shp Pratt & Whitney PW207D1 engines, a state-of-the-art cockpit and a spacious cabin. It has a top speed of 155 knots and can take up to 7 passengers and one pilot. The helicopter can be equipped with optional rear clam-shell doors to ease loading of patients (if used in an EMS role). The side doors gives a 159 cm wide entrance at each side of the aircraft, which further facilitates the patient loading.
In August 2012 the Swiss company Air Zermatt became the first company in Europe to employ a Bell 429 in EMS operations. The aircraft that visited Sweden today is Bell’s touring EMS configured demo ship. It continued its journey towards Gotland, Russia and China.
