Backup helicopter proposed for Svensk Luftambulans

The County Board in Värmland proposes that the County Council are to facilitate the purchase of a backup helicopter to the HEMS federation Svensk Luftambulans. The federation, which is shared by Värmland County, Dalarna County and the Västra Götaland Region, is responsible for the members’ helicopter operations.

- Now that we are three members we have the need for a backup helicopter, and are able to acquire one that can be shared and operated throughout the federation, says Fredrik Larsson, county chairman.

The backup helicopter will cover for the main helicopters when they are in for routine maintenance or when training is needed.

- In this way we ensure a constant availability of lifesaving EMS helicopters, says Fredrik Larsson.

The other members, Dalarna and Västra Götaland, have not yet made the corresponding decision for a backup aircraft, but if the decision is made a new EMS helicopter can be deployed in the spring of 2016.
