Helicopter procurement canceled by court order
May 09, 2014
The Court of Appeal has legally canceled Värmland County Council’s decision following a public tender for the procurement of a new EMS helicopter. Värmland County had chosen the new Airbus EC 145 T2 for its very first HEMS station in Karlstad, but the decision was appealed. The Administrative Court approved the county’s procurement, but the verdict was later appealed to the Court of Appeal that has now adjourned the purchase.
Värmland’s County has issued a statement saying that they are surprised by the outcome, but that their current goal is to be operational in August through the procurement of a provisional helicopter. The arrival of a permanent helicopter will be delayed as a result of the verdict.
The canceled tender will have consequences for Dalarna’s County. The region has declared its intention to join Värmland County’s acquisition by utilizing the available option for a second EC 145 T2 in Värmland’s deal. Dalarna’s EMS helicopter is planned to be operational from mid-2015.
