Helicopters damaged by blasting mishap in Norway

Sep 18, 2015
Several helicopters were damaged in a blasting mishap in Narvik, northern Norway, on Monday afternoon. The helicopters were parked at Helitrans’ base in Djupvik, moments east of Narvik, when a nearby (un)controlled blasting went wrong. A total of five helicopters were damaged, but fortunately no people were hurt. Three helicopters could return to service within a couple of days. The remaining two had obtained severe damages from flying rocks, with dents and holes in their airframes.
Helitrans were able to cover for the sudden helicopter shortfall with the help from competitive companies and leased helicopters. The extent of the repair work on the two grounded helicopters, and their expected downtime, is not known at this state.
