NHI delivers the first Swedish ASW NH90
Dec 17, 2015
Today NHI delivered the first NH90 in full anti-submarine warfare (ASW) configuration to the Swedish Military Procurement Agency FMV.
This helicopter was built in Donauwörth (Airbus Helicopters facility), it is equipped with a new generation mission system tailored to the Swedish specifications. This mission system includes a dipping sonar and a multi-mode tactical radar. The Swedish NH90s are characterised by their high cabin in order to give more space for the crews.
In total, Sweden has ordered 18 NH90s, locally designated HKP 14. Of these, 13 were intended to be equipped for inland operations and five in anti-submarine warfare configuration. In the frame of today’s delivery, FMV and the manufacturer NHIndustries have also signed a contract to modify four already delivered NH90s (HKP 14 A/B) from inland operations to ASW configuration, bringing the total Swedish NH90 fleet to nine ASW and nine utility aircraft.
Prior to delivery, the aircraft has been thoroughly tested by the Swedish acceptance team in Donauwörth and over water in Marignane. The delivery to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration means that a new test phase can be initiated prior to the hand-over to the Swedish Armed Forces Helicopter Wing.
As of today, NHI and its partner companies, has delivered more than 260 helicopters to 13 customers, and the fleet in service approaches 100 000 flight hours in operation.
