Information
This aircraft was manufactured at Airbus Helicopter's Donauwörth plant in 2017. It was purchased by
Babcock Scandinavian AirAmbulance (BSAA) and imported to Sweden in late December 2017.
The helicopter flew from the factory in Germany to the Norrtälje HEMS base in Sweden in December 2017. It arrived on 27 December. A period of flight training and modifications will follow before the aircraft enters service as primary EMS helicopter in Stockholm County together with a second H145, subsequently replacing the ageing EC135s
SE-JFN and
SE-JIE.
BackgroundAfter years of appeal processes (and a revoked tender), the Stockholm County Council's new contract for the region's HEMS structure was appointed to
Babcock Scandinavian AirAmbulance in March 2017. The contract, which is valid for 5+2 years, calls for larger Airbus H145 helicopters to replace the current EC135s - a type that has been in service as EMS helicopter in the region for 19 years by then. The EC135s replaced the older BK117 in March 1999, after the previous type had served from the start in March 1994 (with initial trials being conducted in 1992).
