Information
The aircraft was constructed by Hughes Helicopters in 1976 and was imported to Sweden from South Korea in late-2004. It was owned by Malmskogens Aerocenter AB but dry leased by the Finnish company Heliwest Oy. The helicopter was mostly used for power line inspections and various utility operations. It has even been used as a civil police helicopter by the company for a short while.
SE-JMR was purchased by the large helicopter company
HeliAir Sweden in October of 2010. It was a part of a batch of three Hughes 500 helicopters (
SE-HNO,
SE-JMO and
SE-JMR) acquired from Malmskogens Aerocenter the same month. The deal made HeliAir the largest 500 operator in Sweden.
SE-JMR was sold to Finland together with
SE-HNO in May 2012.
Sawing accidentThe helicopter was badly damaged following an emergency landing near Kämmenniemi in Tampere, Finland, on 10 January 2013. The pilot, who was the sole occupant at the time of the accident, walked away with minor injuries.
The aircraft was engaged in a forest cleansing operation at Paavolantie, where it was clearing trees around power lines with an underslung saw, when the engine quit. The pilot was able to perform an emergency landing on a field next to the power line.
