HeliAir Sweden

Description

HeliAir Sweden AB is a large helicopter operator focused in a wide range of professional services, like aerial filming, sawing, power line inspection, firefighting, sling load jobs, air taxi, and so on. It operates from four bases in Sweden, with the headquarter and maintenance base stationed at Västerås Airport.

HeliAir has a diversified fleet consisting of various helicopter types - all from Hughes 500s to a powerful UH-1H Huey. The company operates its own gyro-stabilized Cineflex V14 HD camera system, and they are well established in the TV and film industry, with many international missions.

History

HeliAir Sweden was started as a private company in 1998. Its commercial helicopter operations was initiated in 2008.

The company purchased the two utility helicopter operators Rehnström Aero and Helimatic in 2009.

It purchased three Hughes 500 helicopters from Malmskogens Aerocenter the next year, SE-HNO, SE-JMO and SE-JMR.

The company opened a field base at Skaftö Island near Lysekil in Gothenburg around year 2010.

HeliAir started to move its main base from Bromma Airport in Stockholm to Hässlö Airport in Västerås in late 2010.

In 2011 HeliAir Sweden acquired the large helicopter company Flygtjänst o Helikoptertransport i Sverige AB. The acquisition lead to the addition of four helicopters - one MD600N (SE-JKJ), two Hughes 500s (SE-HUU and SE-JCH) and one Long Ranger (SE-HPM). The Long Ranger was put on a temporary lease to Osterman Helicopter.

In June 2011 HeliAir's newly started maintenance company HeliAir Maintenance obtained its formal PART-145 approval issued by the Swedish Transport Agency. The maintenance base was established in the same building as the company's main base in Västerås.

In 2012, HeliAir opened a summer base in Simrishamn. The Long Ranger SE-HPM, which had been returned from Osterman, came to be used for the operation.

Later in 2012 HeliAir acquired several helicopters from the recently bankrupt company Osterman Helicopter. Three Jet Rangers (SE-JIP, SE-JKD and SE-JKP) were added to HeliAir's fleet.

In April 2013 HeliAir launched its flight school after obtaining a Flight Training Organisation permit from the Swedish Transport Agency. The flight school was branded as HeliAir Academy.

In June 2013 HeliAir purchased a UH-1H Huey for fire-fighting and sling-load purposes. Its fleet was further changed over the next years. The number of Jet Rangers were reduced and a few Hughes 500s were exchanged. Three AS350s (two B2s and one B3) were added and the BA was sold.

In May 2016 HeliAir started to modernize its fleet by adding two EC120s in a rapid pace. The company subsequently sold two Hughes 500s and its sole Jet Ranger.

In July 2016 HeliAir opened a partnership with the sales company Helikopterflyg AB, which brought an AS350BA and a Bell Jet Ranger to HeliAir's fleet. The new helicopters opened for seasonal bases in Hemavan and Ammarnäs in northern Sweden.
