The company has a versatile fleet that is engaged in a wide range of operations - everything from tourism/taxi flights to sling-load operations and reindeer mustering, including a seasonal shuttle-traffic between Nikkaluokta and Mt Kebnekaise each summer.Kallax Flyg
has its main base and technical department at Långnäs Airfield in Piteå. It has hangars placed throughout large parts of northern Sweden and Norway, as well as field bases at various locations.
The company offers flight training through the flight school Proflight Nordic
AB. Proflight is administered in partnership with Roslagens Helikopterflyg
operates in Norway through its subsidiary Kallaxflyg AS, which has bases in Alta and Tana.
AB was established by the Stenvall family back in 1998. The company is a subsidiary to Stenvalls Trä AB, which is a large Swedish wood company. Kallax Flyg
initiated its operations with a Cessna 421, but it soon expanded into the helicopter segment by purchasing a Schweizer 269C (SE-HSB
) in 1999.
The company added an EC 120 Colibri to its fleet in early 2001 (SE-JHH
). This aircraft was in fact the the two hundredth EC 120 manufactured by Eurocopter, and it was celebrated in a ceremony at the factory.Kallax Flyg
purchased Kiruna Flyg in 2001, and it got its first AS350 (SE-HMM
) through the acquisition. The deal also included the Kurravaara helicopter base moments north of Kiruna.
The fleet was further expanded in late 2001, and several helicopters were added over the next years.
In early-2004 Kallax Flyg
purchased the deeply rooted company Norrlandsflyg's utility segment in northern Sweden. Norrlandsflyg had decided to focus in its EMS and SAR activities instead of the utility work. The deal included four helicopters (SE-HGZ
) and the bases in Björkliden, Kiruna (Fiskodlingen), Kvikkjokk and Nikkaluokta. It did also include the lucrative seasonal Nikkaloukta-Kebnekaise shuttle, the Esrange space rocket recovery operations and the missions at the missile test range in Vidsel.Kallax Flyg
purchased the maintenance company Helimek AB the same year, which soon became the core in Kallax Flyg
’s in-house maintenance organisation.Kallax Flyg
purchased the Kiruna based Polarhelikopter and its two helicopters in 2005. The deal included the seasonal base in Abisko.
In 2005 Kallax Flyg
operated a field base in Kittelfjäll in addition to its wide infrastructure in northern Sweden.
In 2008 Kallax Flyg
became the first Swedish company to operate the modern EC 130 (SE-JOX
). The aircraft was primarily purchased for the seasonal shuttle traffic between Nikkaluokta and Kebnekaise.
In July 2015 Kallax Flyg
purchased all the stocks in Westhelicopter AB. At that time Kallaxflyg had a fleet of 10 helicopters and Westhelicopter had 7 helicopters. The two companies had their main offices located only 40 kilometres apart, but they were administered as parallel companies for the first months.
Westhelicopter's helicopters were gradually transferred to Kallax Flyg
's fleet starting from November 2015. One AS350B2 and three EC120s were the first ones to transition. The last helicopters were transferred in February 2016, and Westhelicopter was subsequently retired.
The Luleå base that was inherited from Westhelicopter was eventually closed, but the landing site kept being used occasionally.
In July 2016 Kallax Flyg
added a leased Airbus H130 (EC130T2) to its fleet. The aircraft (SE-HCJ
) was brand new from the Airbus Factory.
In 2017 Kallax Flyg
opened a partnership with the sales company Jonair Affärsflyg, which has one EC120 stationed in Umeå.
